Michelle Hathcock, CCI, Director at Ankura (previously Chartwell), has over 20 years of experience in managing large and mid-scale licensing projects for investment banking firms, secondary market investors, mortgage companies and money transmitters.
Prior to joining Chartwell, Michelle worked with various law firms joining Chartwell from Alston & Bird LLP and before that working at Dentons US LLP, Thacher Proffitt & Wood LLP and Sidley Austin Brown & Wood LLP. She started her career as a Corporate Paralegal with a small boutique law firm that was known for its expertise in capital markets work. Michelle worked directly with investment banks on transactions involving publicly and privately offered securities to facilitate the closing of the transactions and the filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Michelle then had the opportunity to join another firm as the first Licensing Specialist on a team focused on state predatory lending laws. She worked directly with state banking department regulators to determine if client business activities would trigger the need for licensure and assisted clients with navigating the unclear requirements for obtaining such licenses. After the financial crisis and the passing of the S.A.F.E. Act, Michelle’s focus became the tracking of each state’s implementation of required minimum standards for the licensing and registration of state-licensed mortgage loan originators and their transition onto the Nationwide Multistate Licensing System & Registry (“NMLS”). Michelle is an NMLS expert who has seen the system grow to include different business entities, such as mortgage servicers, debt collectors, collection agencies, motor vehicle sales finance companies, appraisal management company and money transmitters. Michelle has also led various change of ownership transactions and assisted clients with obtaining federal approvals with HUD, FNMA, USDA and VA.
Michelle has a Bachelors Degree in English and an Associate’s Degree in Paralegal Studies.
