Phillip Furusa, Senior Associate at Ankura (previously Chartwell), has over 13 years of sales leadership, marketing and project management experience.
Prior to joining Chartwell, Phillip held corporate sales leadership, managed hotel rate consulting and property management roles in the travel industry. Additionally, Phillip instructed college level courses in Communications, Critical Thinking, Sustainability, Project Management and Leadership.
Phillip spent 6 years at HRS Group (Global Hotel Solutions) as the North American Head of Sales. He was instrumental in establishing and expanding the presence of the company’s hotel solutions department on the continent. He worked in marketing and sales consulting for Assa Properties Inc in New York City and spent 5 years as Regional Manager for Jazz Hostels Inc, with a portfolio of properties in NYC, Miami and Montreal QC. Phillip spent 5 years volunteering his business administration and project management expertise for Eco Africa Social Ventures, a non-profit created to assist underprivileged artists from Zimbabwe to sell their craftwork on international markets.
Phillip holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Rhodes University in South Africa, with a double major in Cultural Anthropology and Industrial Sociology. He received a Master of Project Management (MPM) degree from the University of Mary and a Master of Science in Tourism and Hospitality Management from New York University. Phillip has started working on a Ph.D. in Business Administration.
He lives on Long Island, New York with his wife and daughter. Phillip never passes up an opportunity to travel or to be out with his family at the aquarium or zoo. He enjoys researching destinations and trip planning for his extended family and friends. He loves catching up on all things European soccer, and always makes time to watch broadcasts of his favorite team Chelsea Football Club.
